Privacy Policy
We keep this short and honest. The French Corner is run by one person, and we collect only what we need to run your account and improve the platform.
Who we are
The French Corner is published by Laurane Boulenger (Entrepreneur individuel (micro-entreprise) — profession libérale non réglementée), based at 537 avenue de la Justice de Castelnau, 34090 Montpellier, France. For anything related to your data, the data controller is Laurane Boulenger, reachable at hello@learnfrench.io. Full identity details are on our Legal Notice.
What we collect
- Account data — your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google. You can sign in either with a login link sent to your email or with your Google account; in both cases we never store a password.
- Learning data — the videos you watch and the vocabulary you meet, so the platform can bring words back before you forget them. This is the core of what the service does.
- Payment data — handled entirely by our payment provider, Creem, acting as Merchant of Record. We never see or store your card details; we only receive confirmation that a subscription is active.
- Messages you send us — anything you write through the contact form or by email, so we can reply.
- Newsletter email — if you subscribe to our optional newsletter, the email address you give us, so we can send it. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Technical data — basic server logs (such as IP address and browser type) needed to keep the site secure and running.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To provide your account and the learning features — performance of our contract with you.
- To take payment and manage your subscription — performance of our contract.
- To reply to your messages and support requests — our legitimate interest in helping you.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems — our legitimate interest.
- To prevent a deleted account from claiming a new free trial with the same email — our legitimate interest in protecting the service from abuse. We keep only the email address itself for this, nothing else.
- To send you the newsletter you asked for — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
- To measure advertising, once it is active — your consent, which you can give or refuse and withdraw at any time (see “Cookies and tracking” below).
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We rely on a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only as needed to run The French Corner.

Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the European Union, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not use your data to train any AI model.
Cookies and tracking
We use only the essential cookies needed to sign you in and keep your session secure. These do not require consent.
If and when we run advertising, we plan to add the Meta pixel to measure how our ads perform. This is a non-essential tracking tool: it will only load after you have given consent, and you will be able to refuse it or withdraw your consent at any time without any effect on your use of the platform. As of the date above, no advertising or pixel is active on the site.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is open. If you close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep certain records (for example billing records) to meet legal obligations, or a minimal fraud-prevention record (just your email address, nothing else) so the same free trial can’t be claimed again after your account is deleted. Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we keep your email for that purpose for as long as you stay subscribed — until you unsubscribe, after which we stop using it to email you.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your data;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these, email us at hello@learnfrench.io. If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the CNIL (Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés), the French data-protection authority.
Children
The French Corner is intended for adults and is not directed at children. You must be old enough to enter into a contract in your country to subscribe. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; if you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at hello@learnfrench.io and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves — for example when we launch advertising. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will let you know.
